23 September 2007Plants for People at the Indoor Fabric Garden
created by Jam & Ted Baker

Plants for People were excited to be involved with the Indoor Fabric Garden project at 100% Design in September.

The idea was the brain child of design agency, Jam & fashion retailer, Ted Baker who came up with an innovative design to display plants indoors – reinventing the British ‘hanging basket’.

Plants for People sponsored the plants which were supplied and planted by Indoor Garden Design; messages about the health and motivational information about plants used indoors were also provided by Plants for People.

The garden was in a walk-way between the Green Room and the Press Room at 100% Design and caused a great deal of interest.  The relief contour garden was covered in varying fabrics courtesy of Ted Baker with plants growing out of them.

The fabric covered egg-shaped hanging baskets encouraged interaction as the slightest touch had them bobbing up and down!

Jam & Ted Baker
The whole idea came about when Jam were initially inspired by the shape of old lampshades and it was from this that the hanging baskets were developed.  The baskets were decorated with exclusive fabrics from previous and upcoming Ted Baker collections.

“This serves to explore the wider possibilities of fabric, indoor planting, fashion, hanging baskets and light.’” according to Jam.

Ted’s comments
‘As a brand and as an individual committed to design Ted Baker is very excited to be partnering with Jam on this year’s 100% Design installation.  The innovative use of fabrics in the installation bring a different energy to the inherent designs and its playfulness helps to underpin Ted’s desire to continue as No ordinary Designer Label.  There should always be room for innovation outside of traditional fashion constraints and this can be seen through this piece of work with Jam.

Brain boosters
Are the Jam offices full of plants?  For such innovative ideas they must be!  One recent research study found that plants in a room really increase creative ideas by as much as 15%, according to Plants for People.  (Prof R Ulrich, 2006).

It is this type of message and others from health, motivation and productivity endorsements that Plants for People will add to the mix as well as sponsoring the plants.

Design doesn’t stop with the hanging baskets
This is where, North London interior landscapers, Indoor Garden Design came in; they added the finishing touch with the plants!  With a prestigious client list in the city from business, finance to retail including a commissions for one-offs in Harrods windows, IGD have the design credentials to match this partnership.

The Indoor Fabric Garden was at 100% Design, 20 – 23 September in Earls Court 2.
