23 May 2008Chelsea Flower Show: Clifton Nurseries builds award-winning garden for Rachel de Thame

The garden, built by Clifton Nurseries - who also sourced many of the plants, captured the surroundings of a London garden. It was inspired by LK Bennett’s collection of elegant, floral prints and combined strong contemporary design with softness and opulence in the planting.

The garden featured a curved sculpture of contemporary design in steel, strung with light-catching silicone cord. The elegant, semi-transparent screen contained the seating area – providing privacy in a crowded urban setting.

The combination of sun-loving perennials, shrubs and trees in the garden was complemented by an abundance of roses, peonies, irises and aquilegia. A single Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’ created a soft, feminine and richly coloured focus flanked by grass beds.

“This was a terrific design which utilised intricate engineering, yet created a wonderful environment for a classic English garden”, said Clifton Nurseries MD Tad Paluchowski.
